Chester overview

Chester Travel Guide
Chester is a pleasant old town of Roman origin in the west of England. It sits close to the Welsh border just below Liverpool and is worth a visit for its zoo, cathedral and castle. Formerly a monastery, Chester Cathedral had the luck of being transformed into a church after Henry decided to rob the rest during the Dissolution. Chester Castle is another fine structure in town and there is also a Roman amphitheatre and some excellent museums. Chester Zoo is the UK’s largest and a must-see for those with kids as it boasts thousands of creatures to gawk at. The Chester Rows is the premier shopping experience in town followed by the Grosvenor Centre. Liverpool, Manchester or Birmingham airports provide access.
