Blackpool overview

Known for the Illuminations, the Pleasure Beach, the Golden Mile, thousands of arcade games and the Blackpool Tower; Blackpool is one of the top draws in the English northwest. The city itself is inherently drab, although this doesn’t bother the majority of visitors, who come for the aforementioned sights, attractions, nightlife and cheapish digs. Blackpool is essentially a summer destination, however, and any sort of weather transforms it from a fun place to a sombre one. Fortunately, there are oodles of indoor attractions for the inevitable, including the famed Blackpool Ballroom underneath the Tower, a massive amount of arcades, and other leisure activities. The Pleasure Beach features some of the best rides in the world and is huge, while at night the city comes alive with hundreds of bars and clubs. The annual Illuminations are the world’s biggest light show.
